The Berry Patch is a monthly newsletter designed to keep the members and general public informed of projects and decisions made by the Board and committees of the Strawberry Festival in their efforts to produce the annual Strawberry Festival celebration and promote the greater Marysville community area by participating in over 25 community parades throughout the Pacific Northwest. Here is this month's edition, written by Ms. Jodi Hiatt:
April 2010 Marysville Strawberry Festival’s
THE BERRY PATCH Spring has sprung, the tulips and daffodils are blooming and Strawberry Festival is at full speed. Many things have been happening since my last article. We said good bye to our 2009 Royalty (Queen Shelby Hintze, Princess Azzlinn Morales and Princess Rebecca Thomas) in March and welcomed the 2010 Royalty, Queen Kaija Wilcox, Princess Haley Otto, Princess Ella Stefoglo and Junior Royalties, Cassie Coate, Piper Holiday and Cassy Mead. Each member of the Senior Royalty Court receives a Scholarship Award while the Junior Royalty Court winners receive a smaller Award for their essays. Royalty Candidate Mackenzie Harrell won the Bob Klepper Congeniality Award. Volunteers Tom Grady and Greg Edwards have completely torn down the float to the frame and rebuilt, re-structured, added, deleted and decorated to fit this year’s theme “Summertime Fun”. Over 15 other volunteers, including some of our Board members have participated in constructing this year's float. Check out www.maryfest.com to get a sneak preview as to how the float is progressing. The float will make its debut appearance at the Daffodil Festival in the Puyallup Valley on Saturday, April 10th starting in Tacoma and continuing on to Puyallup and Sumner to finish up in Orting. Four parades in one day, what a way to break in the new Royalty! Tough decisions were also made such as who our media partners will be this year. We are proud to acknowledge the North County Outlook as the exclusive publisher for the “Official 2010 Strawberry Festival Program” along with KZOK & KRKO for our radio partners. Marysville Printing will once again be designing and printing our festival events poster and counter cards, which will be distributed throughout the community sometime in May. 2010 T-shirts and pins are also available and can be found at Carr’s Hardware and Hilton Pharmacy, both located on Third Street. Applications are coming and going. Applications coming in for all the different events such as the Grand Parade and Market. Applications going out for all the parades Festival will be attending in other communities. A complete schedule of events for the Strawberry Festival and the different parades the float will be appearing at are located on our website www.maryfest.com . If you are interested in participating in any of the different events, applications can also be found on the website. Deadline for applications into the Grand Parade are May 1st, so if you are thinking about being in it, hurry and get that application in. May 1st is also the deadline for food vendors at the market and June 1st for all other vendors. Talent Show tryouts will be starting May 11th & 12th. It’s always amazing to me what wonderful talent Marysville and the surrounding communities have hidden. If you want to be a model at the Fashion Show luncheon please call 360-659-7664 and leave a detailed message and the director will get back to you ASAP. In fact, if you want to be part of the all volunteer organization in any way, give the office a call. We are always looking for new volunteers. Please remember that we are volunteers and can’t always return phone calls right away. But don’t get discouraged, it will be returned. Marysville Strawberry Festival Board meets the third Tuesday of each month at the office located at 1059 State Avenue at 7:00 pm. If you are interested in volunteering but can’t make the next meeting, contact us thru email, information@maryfest.com or by phone 360-659-7664.
