SPOKANE

by Carol Kapua:

I will try to make this short. Last week, Thursday, Teresa took 5 of our royalty to the luncheon and crowning of the Tulalip Tribes King Earl and Queen Olga. Our Queen Kaija and Princess Haley did the honors and the Junior Royalty, Cassy, Cassie and Piper supervised. Nancy joined us. It was a little confusing and to make matters worse the newly crowned queen had to be taken out by the paramedics. No lunch for her. Our Royalty were truly ladies at the table too and did us proud once again. Thank you Ladies!

Spokane - The float crew left Friday morning. They consisted of Greg, Amy, Judy and Angie (Angie and Judy were supposed to be hosting also). They had a wild trip over as Judy got the long awaited phone call that she would be a Grandmother again, but this time it would be a girl (their first one). She was screaming and hitting the other 3 in the truck. Tom flew up for the parade and had the plan to put the lights on the float. They started on Friday even though it Greg and Amy's anniversary. Happy Anniversary Amy & Greg!

DC rode over with the Royalty with Debbie driving and was the weekend chaperone for the Royalty.

This is one parade that it is hard for the floats from the West side to get a trophy at. In our category Sunnyside won the overall Grand Sweepstakes, Hyack won First place in our Division, Olympia got 2nd place and Daffodil got 3rd place. Anyway the first 2 are the ones that got trophies. Our Ladies did a great job.

Thanks everyone for a great job!

Our next parade is Hyack and we will be leaving from the Tulalip Tribal Court parking lot at 5am. Mark will be the driver and Debbie will be the Royalty Chaperone. We will be crossing at Sumas. It is a Red blazer, white shirt, black pants, black shoes affair. If you do not have a blazer, bring your red polo and bring a jacket as it is cold there sometimes. I will be the point person.

Starlite (Portland) will be the next one and Greg will be the driver and Teresa will be the chaperone for the Royalty. We will be coming back right after the parade. The dress for this one is red blazers, white shirts, black pants and black shoes. Do not have a departure time yet for this one so will get back to you.

Admission Tax: Spoke with Sandy Langdon who is charge of the City Finance Department and we do not have to do anything. The only event it will affect will be the carnival. It does not affect any event that we collect money on such as the Fashion Show, Bleachers, Talent show and Berry Run. We do not have to turn anything into the City as they already have copies of what they need. So everyone just relax and I will talk to Rob because he was sent this. This bill was made especially for night clubs, etc. where the police are called a lot to or have to be on hand.

We lost 2 roses due to the fire and they were struggling to stay alive but then the frost came and that was the last straw. One was April's and the other on is Jim Ballew's. We have people who will replace them or and we may be able to collect on the insurance claim. We will try.

Thanks to Sheila for helping to clean up the Rose Garden. We will do a little more to it and it is coming along just fine. Angie has suggested to have a ribbon cutting as it is a new location and maybe we could have Dr. Nyland do the honors with Angie and or the Board.

Thank you for your patience and until we meet again.
